Renewal is the second phase for my book “Butterfly: Una Transformacion.” This phase is dedicated to Oshun because we begin to see life with brand new eyes for the first time. We come into our sensuality. We come into our sexuality. We come into our spirituality. We see how connected all three really are. We feel how connected each of us who share space in this interconnected web in the universe are as well.
Renewal is about breathing new life. We have released stagnant emotions and have allowed them to transform to a lighter state. Our grief has transformed into joy. Our bitterness into sweetness. Our crying is now laughter. We are open and receptive to the gifts that life will inevitably provide us with because we are in a place of surrender. We surrender to spirit knowing that everything in life takes time and requires us to envision a new reality. We must allow ourselves to desire, so it may come to transpire.
Renewal is all about redefining and reimagining what a new world can begin to look like both personally and collectively. We start to imagine our wildest dreams. We start naming what support and assistance can look like for us. We start to manifest and create that which we have needed and desired for so long. We recognize how utterly disconnected we have been from ourselves. Disconnected from our roots. Disconnected from our flow. Disconnected from our natural state.
Renewal is about healing our disconnection. We identify what it is we have been compromising and stop doing that. Compromising shuts out a part of who we are and doesn’t give us space to express. Instead, we begin to cooperate. We create outlets, opportunities, relationships, and roles where these parts of ourselves can be honored, revered, and celebrated. It is about healing our desire to belong. It is about healing our desire for creation. It is about healing our desire for feeling.
We heal these within ourselves first, to ensure healing with those outside of ourselves.
Being human means, we are interdependent. We are wired for relationships. We can survive on our own, but together we can build an empire. No human can do everything by themselves. We have been given unique gifts and talents, as well as weaknesses and deficiencies because they are clues to what our calling is. We are meant to be complimented by the wider community. This does not mean we cannot get better on our weaknesses. It is joyful to challenge and improve on skills which may not come natural to us. It is important to become stronger around all fronts. However, renewal is about the natural and pleasure. What comes natural for us and what gives us the most pleasure. We are dawning into our greatest selves and it is important to focus on our innate abilities. We can no longer afford to rush, contort, or manipulate energy which is simply not meant for us. It is about letting go of force and surrendering to our purpose.
Breath is the ultimate sign of renewal. Each night we fall asleep breathing, and we reawaken to the dawning of new breath. We breathe in and out and restart the phase again and again. We renew because each breath is a reset and opens us to advanced blessings.
Breath is an element we often take for granted. It is a function which is so deeply engraved within us and appears within everything we do, that it often slips our awareness. It is one of the only actions in life which marks the beginning, middle, and end simultaneously. Breath is literally always with us because it is a part of who we are.
The way we breathe can tell us a lot about our emotions. Breathing itself is a form of expression. It is a piece of art we work with on the daily to make into a masterpiece. We contract, we constrict, we concentrate, we cultivate it. Our breath adapts into many different forms throughout our day underneath our own perception, that we don’t even realized how it impacts other areas of our lives when it comes to how we express. The art of mastering our breath can tell us a lot about how far we have come with mastering our own emotions.
It’s hard to recognize it when we are being winded by a certain emotion, but the pattern of our breath tends to shift along with it. When we are anxious we may begin breathing short quick gasps of air, or we may stop breathing altogether. When we are angry we may begin breathing long and hard with an exaggerated amount of energy being extracted from us. When we are experiencing our sorrow, we may take breaths in between uncontrollable sobs from our bosoms. When we are calm, we may be especially susceptible to not noticing our breath at all. It may feel like soft rainwater tapping solemnly against our window sills.
The rhythm of our breath is SO unique to each individual, but there are certain patterns which are common between people when emotions make a flashing appearance. Sometimes the rhythms we fall into with our breath can throw us off balance. This is similar to falling off tangible rhythms in our life which keep us well and also falling into rhythms which do not serve our highest good. We need to work at being in control of our breath- being aware, guiding its pace, making space for it to move through us.
As we embark, or whether we are already quite fond of the journey of reclaiming intimacy with ourselves, we must remember breath. Breath is the simplest expression of life. We engage with breath in an automatic, committed, and consistent function without even always knowing it. Our relationship is not one in which we get carried away within our mentality, but one which we experience in sync with our full being.
That which we master with our breath inevitably gets transferred to the mastery we work to attain in every other area in our lives.
Invitation to Renew through Sensuality-
Choose any or all of these five senses and engage in a rejuvenating way.
Take yourself to the river (any body of water will do) with some of your favorite snacks
Taste- Savor how the sweetness of honey compliments the bitterness of rich dark chocolate.
Smell- Inhale the fresh pollen from sunflowers after they have danced an entire morning.
Listen- Welcome the messages the river sings to you. What do you hear when the river is still opposed to when it is flowing fast?
Vision- Witness the sparkles of gold along the river bed as well as the darkness and mystery within her core. What else do you see? What is coming up for you? Flow and let go just like the river.
Touch- Dip your toes in. Now your feet. If you’re bold enough jump completely in. Feel the cleansing and healing the river provides.
